With all eyes on Milan this week, we’re sharing our favourite addresses for when you need to take a break in between a busy schedule.
Refresh: Café at Corso Como (1)
Corso Como, 10, 20154 Milano MI, Italy
What better place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, than a tranquil courtyard café located within one of the world’s most famous boutiques? The light salads and healthy juices are great for a detox during Fashion Week – purchase a limited edition fashion book or magazine from the vast bookstore upstairs and wile away a few hours in the lush green and floral surroundings.
Refuel: H Club Diana
Sheraton Diana Majestic, Viale Piave 42
The stunning Art Deco hotel houses one of Milan’s most exclusive bars – a firm favourite with the fashion set. Occupying the site of Milan’s first public swimming pool, you can choose to sip your cocktail (try the Caipirinha!) by the side of the outdoor pool, contemporary gazebo lounge or iconic black label indoor room. Visit earlier in the evening for a more relaxed atmosphere, or get yourself on the guestlist when world-famous DJ’s are in town.
Groom: Womo (3)
Via Dante, 4, M1 Cordusio
Enter the minimal interior of Womo, and enjoy the luxury of a male-only grooming experience. From the front of house minimal store, stocking a carefully curated selection of the most refined brands, to the exclusive Bullfrog barbershop offering shaves, haircuts and beard trims, Womo is unique in its attention to detail, catering to every man’s grooming needs.
Fix: Area 6 (4)
Salone Area 6, Corso Concordia 6, Milan
Alessandro Lisi’s Area 6 salon is one of the cities hidden gems. An insider secret of a bevy of fashion editors and It girls (he famously cuts Anna Wintour’s bob when she’s in town), you’ll have to book in advance to secure an appointment, but it’s likely to be the best blow dry you’ve ever had. The décor is understated, with just one long wooden table down the centre of the room and a couple of shabby-chic dressers against the wall, and the small team (headed by Alessandro himself) are welcoming, friendly and informative.
Relax: Larte (5)
Via Manzoni 5, 20121
Centrally located, Larte is an innovative space that combines food, wine, art, culture, interior design and fashion. Housed in the former home of famous Italian poet Carlo Emilio Gadda, Larte showcases a diverse Mediterranean cuisine, specialising in fresh fish, vegetables and pasta. The furnishings within the restaurant are provided by iconic names in fashion and design – and, in an ingenious twist, are available for sale!
Rest: Straf (6)
Via San Raffaele, 3, 20121 Milano, Italy
If minimalist contemporary décor tickles your fancy, the Straf hotel is the place to stay. The elegant interiors feature raw concrete walls, slick furnishings and an abundance of glass – perfect for those who admire artistic interiors. The hotel’s bar regularly plays host to the local fashion crowd, and is the perfect location for mingling with fashion insiders for late night drinks during fashion week.
