FLANNELS Five: The New Festival Dress Code

FLANNELS Five: The New Festival Dress Code

Whether you’re pitching your tent in the dark after a few cold ones, or living your best life in the glamping area, your festival outfits need to work hard for you. This year, invest in clothes and accessories that look as good in your day-to-day life as they do on a campsite. Band T-shirts make our toes curl (unless you’re a die-hard fan), and rubber boots no longer make the cut. Instead, opt for sophisticated styles that will ensure you look good even when you’re living out of a bag in a muddy field. Here are five essential pieces of kit for a headline festival wardrobe. Don’t forget the loo roll.

THE BAG

All of your festival essentials need to go somewhere (sunglasses, hand sanitiser, charger pack and wallet), and this compact Valentino messenger bag is the ideal place to put them. Avoid the trauma of a phone lost beneath the dancing feet of a 100,000-strong crowd and keep it zipped away in style.

THE SHIRT

Nothing says ‘festival’ like a printed shirt, and Prada’s ‘70s-inspired camp collar style has a party-boy, summery vibe. If you’re serious about your festival wardrobe, team this psychedelic piece with a black nylon bucket hat, or channel the disco decade with oversized, gold-rimmed, Gucci sunglasses. You’ll be the best dressed man in the dance tent.

THE HAT

Come rain or shine, a carefully chosen cap will get you into the festival spirit and help you stay there, even if the heavens open and you haven’t showered for three days. Great for hiding all manner of sins (particularly an unwashed mop), this pink Palm Angels hat is fun but not so ‘out there’ that you couldn’t wear it at home in the city, or on holiday at the beach.

THE WALLET

You might be out to lose your mind at a festival, but be sure not to lose your bank card. Off-White’s coin wallet with a streetwear-inspired chain addendum doubles up as a nifty accessory for your trousers.

THE FOOTWEAR

Wellingtons are so last season. This year, up your game and swap rubber boots for hiking boots. These impressive-looking chunky numbers by Off-White come with a heavy dose of practicality and a side of streetwear pedigree. Try not to submerge them in mud.
