Style Advisor: This Is How To Style Denim

Dressed up with heels, dressed down with sneakers, cut short, billowing out, trailing the floor… denim in 2021 means a multitude of looks. From the cult styles to the in-demand brands and fresh fits: this is your guide to 2021 denim – and how to style it - with a little help from Agolde, Frame and Anine Bing.

It’s not often a pair of jeans gains cult status, but LA label Agolde have done just that with their unique Criss Cross design. Featuring a clever asymmetric buttoning, they give your typical straight-leg jean just enough edge. Keep the rest of your outfit out of the way: tops should be flat to the stomach and tucked or – like this one from exclusive label Natalie Rolt – skimming the stomach, to allow the buttons to be clearly on display.

The centre piece of your spring coat collection, a light-wash denim jacket is a true investment piece and Anine Bing has provided the goods. Oversized and chunky, her in-demand Rory jacket can be worn with just about anything. Double up your denim, perch on your shoulders over a night-time ensemble and wear all weekend long with a few of the season’s hottest trends: cycling shorts, chunky trainers and baseball cap.

Shorts are officially back, and the hottest style of the season is shaping up to be the Bermuda. Cut to just above the knee and gently flaring out, it’s the easiest way to dip your toe into the trend without committing to full leg bearing. Polish things up a little with an oversized blazer, lace-up heels and Cult Gaia’s signature wooden Ark Nano bag.

Crocheted tops, tinted spectacles, straw baskets, clogs… ‘70s fashion has been seeping into every part of our wardrobes this season but the one we’re most excited for? Larger-than-life denim flares. Frame’s take on the trend fit snug on the thigh and balloon out to hit the floor just so. Tuck in an oversized shirt and throw on a patchwork jacket to nail the very 2021 version of the Canadian tuxedo.
