On Trend: How To Wear Chunky Trainers

It’s a new year – time to make some resolutions, update your wardrobe and elevate your footwear collection with a pair of on-trend chunky trainers. And not necessarily in that order. Whilst resolving to hit the gym five times a week can be at best challenging and at worst impossible, resolving to up your sneaker game is a lot less arduous and, we think, just as satisfying. 2018 saw the rise of the chunky trainer and we’re ready to embrace the ‘ugly’ style in all its directional glory. Make 2019 the year you make a statement with our guide to wearing the trend.

THE '90S THROWBACK

Casual, playful and sweet, these Valentino Bounce trainers are a pastel dream, but are chunky enough not to be saccharine. Style them up like it’s the ‘90s with Off-White’s cropped bleached denim and a Saint Laurent lemon yellow Tee.

MINIMAL CHIC

Alexander McQueen’s oversized trainers were one of last year’s most coveted styles and these platform pretties are the ones to be seen in for 2019. Elevate them with a pleated Valentino midi-skirt and low-cut MSGM top in monochromatic colours. Laid-back but luxe, this is hi-lo dressing at its best.

OFF-DUTY ELEVATION

Avoid head-to-toe sportswear, instead dress your chunky trainers up with a silken pyjama-style two piece from Off-White. Teamed with a metallic leather bag by Saint Laurent, this street-chic ensemble will make your eveningwear infinitely more comfortable.
