On Trend: The Best Of SS19

Okay, we know we’re only just the other side of Christmas, but we thought we’d beat the crowds and start looking forward to SS19. Always one step ahead, the team at FLANNELS is all over the ‘next big thing’. There are no flies on us. Short shorts and relaxed tailoring were seen on a number of big-name runways at the summer shows last June, from Off-White to Paul Smith, whilst hiking-inspired style and oversized silhouettes should be high on every fashion-forward man’s agenda next season if Maison Margiela, Dolce & Gabbana and Valentino were anything to go by. To make things easier, we’ve handpicked some of our favourite new season trends for you to mull over while you digest your Christmas leftovers. You can thank us when spring arrives.

CLASHING PATTERN

Warm the cockles of your winter-beaten soul with bright, bold and mental prints by Gucci and Off-White. From heavy metal inspired pieces to rave and hippie throwbacks (the likes of which we haven’t seen for a while), the crazier the better this spring. Versace are old hat at ostentatious prints, whilst retro nostalgia prevails with many designers plundering their house’s archives for inspiration.

UNPREDICTABLE SHIRTING

This is a piece you wear on holiday, beachside and margarita in hand, or on long, warm afternoons spent whiling away the hours in a sun-soaked beer garden. Alternatively, you can dress one up with a pair of trousers and smart shoes for more formal occasions. Bowling and Cuban shirt styles are set to be big for another season, and their versatility speaks for itself. Valentino’s short sleeved versions were playful but smart, worn with bucket hats and sophisticated slacks, whilst Off-White’s holiday-themed print is guaranteed to get you in the mood for the new season.

URBAN ACCESSORIES

Streetwear is, unsurprisingly, still in business. Big business. Tracksuits, hoodies and all that’s in between are recognised wardrobe staples. Today, we’re focusing on the genre’s accoutrements, AKA, accessories. From belt bags to chunky trainers, street-inspired accessories are being championed by the world’s most high-end brands this season. Pieces feel a little more grown up – Valentino’s come in slick black leather with refined silhouettes and subtle silver hardware, and whilst sneakers are getting bigger by the day, they feel athletic and streamlined nonetheless.
