On Trend: The Summer Wardrobe Update

FLANNELS SS19 The Day Trip Pt. 4: The Café

Ready for your moment in the sun? Summer is finally (officially) here, so cue easy living, relaxed dress codes and ice-cold beers in the evening sunshine. To make the most of the warmer months, every man’s wardrobe could use a little sprucing. From the perfect Tee to statement denim, these are our suggestions for a successful (and fun) summer wardrobe. On the menu for SS19: sophisticated streetwear, utility accessories and elevated staples.

THE ELEVATED DENIM

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Fendi. The Italian power house’s SS19 collection took denim to new heights of sophistication with an all-over FF print in a retro shade of brown. Wear with a white Tee and trainers for a fresh approach to downtime dressing. See also: Off White, Burberry and Prada.

THE HAT

Whether you were part of the scene the first time around or not, ‘90s-inspired, rave-reminiscent dressing is in right now. Channel the aesthetic with a bucket hat – a cornerstone of the hedonism-fuelled ‘look’. Step too far? We’re a big fan of hats for a number of reasons – they’re practical, stylish and can hide a multitude of sins. Both Prada’s nylon cap and Off-White’s baseball hat are cool alternatives to Valentino’s bucket.

‘90S MINIMALISM

Another throwback to fashion’s favourite decade, minimalism and utility dressing are high on the style agenda for summer. It’s relatively easy to pull off: a monochromatic colour palette, simple, oversized cuts and clothes and accessories designed with practicality in mind. Team a Palm Angels bowling shirt with a Valentino belt bag and track pants. Understated cool.

THE TEE

Few things are as wardrobe-critical in summer as a Tee. Whether you’re wearing one to the beach, to work, or for a lazy weekend, every man needs a solid arsenal of top T-shirts for warm days. Valentino’s new VLOGO designs are perfect for urban summer dressing, whilst Gucci, Moncler and Balmain all continue to serve up the most-wanted logo Tees of the season.
