On Trend: Transitional Updates

If you’re asking yourself what on earth ‘transitional’ means when applied to clothing, let us enlighten you. Transitional, or trans-seasonal (if you really want to get down with the sartorial lingo), pieces are those items which get you through the in-between months of autumn and into winter. When it’s getting colder, but not quite freezing, or it’s threatening to rain, but it’s not yet torrential. From lightweight jackets and rain coats to new-season colour schemes, these pieces are very practical but still ultimately stylish. Here’s our selection of trend-led transitional updates to ensure you’re appropriately dressed for autumn.

Our number one tip for autumn dressing: layers. Be prepared for the changeable British weather with Heron Preston’s padded puffer (which doubles up as a good investment for winter.) Throw it on over a high-necked top as the evenings begin to chill. Simply remove the top layer if the weather brightens. No sweat.

Not the kind you wore as a child. Vetements’ cult, ironic ‘Copyright’ long-line jacket is sophisticated and subversive in equal measure. Wear with the appropriately named ‘Anarchy’ jogging bottoms and be ready to take on the rain in style.

Baby, it’s not-quite-yet cold outside. We’ve had a warm early autumn, but with Halloween and the festive season on the horizon, the urge to wrap up is strong. Cue Moncler’s fleece-lined lightweight puffer jacket. Padded and down jackets are set to be, yet again, the style of the season, with Fendi, Burberry and Valentino serving up high-fashion versions in modern prints and silhouettes.

After months of wearing T-shirts, re-adjusting to life after summer can be tricky. Especially if it’s not yet sweatshirt weather. At times like this, a long-sleeved T-shirt is your best friend, and can be layered under a sweat or jacket if the temperature decides to drop. Off-White’s graphic, streetwear-inspired pieces are among the season’s most-wanted.
