Style Advisor: Italian Glamour

From timeless classics to high-octane glamour, Italian women have a reputation for impeccable dressing. As a nation, they’re regarded as one of the world’s most stylish. Brits own eccentric chic, Parisian’s have their effortless cool-girl code, and Italian’s have immaculate elegance with a touch of Mediterranean sexiness. In celebration of la dolce vita, here are four of our favourite Italian designers of the moment.

Gucci needs no introduction. The storied Italian fashion house started life as a luxury leather goods company, and it’s to them we owe It-bags like the Dionysus, Soho and Marmont. Now, creative director Alessandro Michele is ripping up the fashion rule book with retro-chic collections of printed dresses, heavily embellished jackets and statement eyewear. It’s all Gucci.

Italian women take a lot of pride in their shoes, and no designer better encapsulates this than shoemaker Giuseppe Zanotti. The A-list designer has collaborated with Kanye West, Rita Ora and Beyoncé, and his trademark Cruel heels, crystal fishbone sandals and polished off-duty trainers are a fash pack go-to for an instant dose of Italian opulence.

Founded in 1994, Marni is the fashion-insider’s favourite label for thoughtful, luxurious design. Combining Italian quality and craftsmanship with a continental approach to classic pieces, wardrobe staples and luxe accessories are sophisticated but vibrant and transcend seasons and trends. Beautiful fabrics and an artistic sensibility define each collection.

The house is renowned for its feminine take on Italian style, and collections feature high-fashion pieces with a whimsical edge. Now under the creative direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli, Valentino is exploring a new world of streetwear-inspired style with an haute-sports aesthetic, whilst staying true to its refined roots. The new VRING bags are one of this season’s cult must-haves.
