Style Advisor: The Essentials Checklist

Logo Tee? Check. Classic sweatshirt? Check. Favourite trainers? Check. From everyday loungewear to a tried-and-tested polo, good basics are the building blocks of any decent wardrobe. Much like the other things you can’t live without – your phone, your car, your best mate – these are pieces that should work hard for you. We’re talking about the items you turn to day in, day out – knowing you’ll look good in them whatever the day throws at you. Alongside the odd statement piece that speaks of your stylish individuality – the natty blazer, the statement track top and the chunky trainers – the below is an edit of garments and accessories no man should be without. Prepare your wardrobe for the season ahead with our essentials checklist.

Whatever you call track pantsjogging bottoms, tracksuit bottoms, trackies – they’re a stay-at-home essential for those days when you don’t feel like leaving the house. Styled up with a smart oversized shirt and trainers, they’re also increasingly acceptable attire for going out. Kenzo’s black logo pair are a staple. Track pants: check.

It’s a fact of life – trainers are a non-negotiable essential. The bread and butter of footwear, white sneakers hold the title for ‘most useful pair of shoes in a man’s wardrobe’. We’re branching out this season with Off-White’s distressed street-wear inspired styles. Heavyweight champions in the sneaker arena. Trainers: check.

The search for the perfect grey sweatshirt never ends. There are a host of styles to choose from, including crew neck sweats, hoodies and funnel necks, and we’ve documented the hunt previously here. For us, C.P. Company’s iconic lens detail gives this one the edge for the season. Grey sweat: check.

Like a trusted old friend, you can always rely on a white T-shirt to have the answer. These days, a man can wear his how he chooses – be it skin-tight (to show of his ripped torso), or baggy and oversized, like a new-age skater boy (but with better-groomed hair). Under denim jackets, blazers, leather, or on its own, a clean white T-shirt by Stone Island is a compulsory staple. White Tee: check.
