Style Advisor: The New Streetwear

Streetwear has grown up. Once the reserve of skateboarders and hip-hop artists, it’s now firmly on the radar of every adult man with an interest in style. The world’s most sought-after designers have been putting their luxe spin on the urban aesthetic for a few seasons now, taking their cues from the likes of A$AP Rocky and cult street brand Supreme. Here’s how to style up one of the season’s hottest trends.

Hint – it doesn’t have to mean tracksuit bottoms and Adidas kicks.

PARISIAN GRAPHICS

Lanvin’s head of menswear Lucas Ossendrijver has spearheaded the French heritage maison’s move into street-and-sports inspired design. Team one of his retro-graphic sweaters> with smart trousers and the outerwear staple of AW17 – a Moncler X Off White cagoule. Yes, an anorak.

CHAMPION OF STYLE

Whether or not you’re a Connor McGregor fan, there’s no denying that the man does luxe streetwear like a don. Take your cues from the fighting champ with an iconic Gucci canvas cap, oversized silhouettes by Dsqaured2 (fake it til you make it) and gleaming white sneakers.

GOOD SPORT

Streetwear doesn’t have to be casual. If your inclination is towards tailoring, incorporate some subtle street-inspired pieces into your look. A structured coat and tailored trousers look great when off set by athletic footwear. The juxtaposition really works.

STREET COUTURE

As logos go, Balmain’s is a stamp of style honour. With Oliver Rousteing at the helm, the brand has moved into the realms of couture streetwear, and the logo is a graphic representation of his creative vision. Wear with a hooded track jacket and the ultimate street outerwear staple – a bomber.
