FLANNELS SS19 The Day Trip Pt 2: The Glass House

Spring is perhaps our favourite season to navigate sartorially. Sure, it can be tricky – not yet properly hot, nor cold enough to warrant an overcoat. It calls for layering, denim updates, lightweight jackets and lighter colours than the black and earthy tones of winter. As the mercury rises, it’s also the time to start thinking about your holiday wardrobe – T-shirts, shorts and sliders. Not to mention the list of events (weddings, christenings) that start kicking off in May. That’s why the second instalment of our SS19 campaign sees the daytrip continue with a handy guide to springtime dressing. Because you know what they say, people in glass houses should wear Gucci.

If you’re a Style News regular, you won’t be surprised to hear that we’re seriously into Cuban shirts this spring. AKA a camp collar shirt, these are characterised by an open neck and have a laid-back, warm-weather fit. The perfect holiday piece, undo a few more buttons on this Alexander Wang silk number to turn up the volume on your spring wardrobe.

It may be a cliché, but there’s nothing like a box-fresh pair of trainers to put a spring in your step. The temperamental British weather means sandals and sliders aren’t appropriate or practical unless you’re travelling overseas. Cue the ever-dependable and versatile trainer. Gucci, Valentino and Alexander McQueen are serving up some of the best.

Spring is a time for events – weddings, christenings, summer parties. We love an excuse to get suited and booted – although formal events no longer mean a conservative dress code. Mix formal pieces, like these Lanvin trousers, with a smart Tee and trainers and you’ll undoubtedly be the best dressed guest at the wedding.

We won’t bore you by stating the obvious – that jeans are a functional and stylish spring staple. Never mind, we just did. You probably have more than a few pairs knocking around your wardrobe, but are any of them like these? From Gucci’s distressed light wash jeans in a baggy fit, to classic Saint Laurent skinnies and Off-White’s drop-crotch slims, meet your new favourite pair of jeans.
