Style Notes: Is This The Wildest Outerwear Brand In The World?

You might be asking yourself why a brand that designs some of the toughest and most luxurious down-filled outerwear in the world is called Moose Knuckles? Before you go down that path – no, the name doesn’t mean what you’re thinking, you rascal. Made in Canada, it is reportedly a combination of the country’s two greatest symbols: the moose and the hockey fight. The highly-coveted logo symbolises a moose footprint in the snow and the hooves represent brass knuckles. Beginning to make sense? Don’t worry if not – there’s more to come.

The team that makes these coats wants you to have fun, and they clearly have fun making them. A self-anointed tribe of like-minded creatives are behind the independent brand, whose history in cold-weather apparel dates back to 1921. These days, the Moose Knuckles Tribe use the label as a platform to showcase the work of Canada’s young creatives – from photographers and designers to musicians and models. Their racy ad campaigns have raised more than a few eyebrows. The latest, shown here, features Dennis Rodman, the infamously fiery ex NBA star and, if these images are anything to go by, absolute baller. It’s all a little bit dangerous, and very, very alluring.

Made for misfits and rebels, these are coats to stand in line for the club in, to out-style the walk of shame in, and, on a slightly more wholesome note, to wear for wintry weekend walks and shopping jaunts. One-part grit, one-part luxury, their jackets and coats range from parkas to bombers and do an excellent job of looking good whilst performing. They are expertly made to exacting design and manufacturing standards, almost entirely by hand from the label’s traditional factories in Winnipeg. Done with love, care and a wild attitude, there really aren’t any other coats out there like them.
