DOMAINE DES ETANGS, MASSIGNAC, FRANCE

Once a private home, works by Matisse and Picasso hang on the walls of Domaine des Etangs, a French château surrounded by forest and lakes in rural southwest France. It’s a warm, elegant sanctuary with a fairy-tale exterior and luxurious but discreet service. The spa, Moulin des Etangs, is housed on the grounds in a converted water mill. Treatments here are inspired by the surrounding natural environment and are designed to restore a sense of balance through a focus on both your external and internal wellbeing. From time to time, Domaine des Etangs run highly sought-after wellness retreats with visiting practitioners, including master of Shiatsu and Chi-Kong Pierre Clavreux.

MILAIDHOO ISLAND, BAA ATOL, THE MALDIVES

Wash up on the shores of Milaidhoo Island, a private tropical island resort in the reef-fringed Baa Atol UNESCO reserve. Island life is slower-paced, with a focus on sun, sea and local Maldivian culture. From holistic treatments in the Serenity Spa suspended above the ocean, to daily yoga and meditation sessions in the over-water pavilion, wellness practices at Milaidhoo are seamlessly linked to the surrounding nature. For those that love to eat as much as relax, the resort has introduced a new ‘mood dining’ concept. What we put into our bodies has a huge impact on our wellbeing, so meals are paired with spa treatments and meditation, with each experience designed to enhance your mood. You are what you eat.

THE BODY CAMP, MALLORCA

Following the success of their Ibizan outpost, The Body Camp is set to open on the island of Mallorca this May. Less of a spa and more of treatment for mind, body and soul, they offer holistic wellbeing and fitness programmes with a healthy dose of down-time (AKA plenty of time for poolside siestas). The Mallorcan site is a small and intimate affair that promises big results – the 12-room boutique hotel has a rustic feel and is perfectly located for exploring the mountains and local towns and villages.
