The Update: A Palm Angels Exclusive

Most people can only dream of the kind of California cool symbolised by Palm Angels – but choosing to wear the LA-inspired brand will get you pretty close. Founded by ex-Moncler Art Director Francesco Ragazzi as a celebration of alternative American culture, we’ve collaborated with Ragazzi and his team (whose expertise lies in two of our two favourite fields: down jackets and streetwear) to bring a slice of West Coast sunshine to you as part of our FLANNELS Exclusive Pink collection.

Palm Angels developed organically after Ragazzi embarked on a four-year photographic project documenting LA’s urban subcultures. His efforts culminated in a cult coffee table book published by Rizzoli in 2014, which featured a foreword by Pharell Williams and led to a debut collection of instant-classic streetwear pieces bearing the same name as the book: Palm Angels. Inspired by the street and skate culture of Los Angeles and influenced by his Italian heritage and fashion pedigree, the brand is a fusion of streetwear and high fashion – part of a shift in the industry that has blurred the lines between the two genres forever.

True to the founder’s transatlantic experiences, most of the clothes are designed and made in Italy using quality fabrics and manufacturing techniques. An early collaborator of Marcelo Burlon, Ragazzi and Palm Angels are part of a new breed of Milanese streetwear that is dominating the scene. Capturing the sun-soaked essence of Cali days and the gritty realities of the subcultures that inhabit them, the designs are a rich mixture of high and low references steeped in a West Coast aesthetic with a side of Italian heritage.

With a high-profile following of music artists and rap stars, including A$AP Rocky and Wizkid, Ragazzi understands the collective power of fashion and music and has said that he begins every design by imagining a piece on a performer at a gig or in a music video. This element of the brand’s DNA spoke to us and our ongoing music initiative which has seen FLANNELS champion and host local London talent like Raye and AJ Tracey. The brand’s values and anarchic sense of fun reflect our own, and the pink and black tracksuit top and bottoms that Palm Angels have created exclusively for us are, to borrow the terminology of our friends across the pond, sick. It’s time to dig out your old board (if you have one) and get yourself a slice of the skate-inspired Palm Angels X FLANNELS exclusive pie.
