The Wishlist: Proper Shoes 28. April 2017 Every man worth his salt owns a pair of proper shoes. What do we mean when we say ‘proper’? We are referring not only to their aesthetic form, nor just the craftsmanship with which they are expertly made, but also to the air of refined decorum with which they will bestow you when worn. That might be gilding the lily a bit, and these dress shoes, studded, laced and perforated, don’t need that. Seriously though, these are proper shoes, in the old-school sense of the word. Made in Italy and crafted by hand, as formal footwear goes, these designers and purveyors of leather goods (namely Gucci, Valentino and Jimmy Choo) know a thing or two about a proper pair of loafers, brogues and derbys. Superior shoes for gentlemen with discerning taste. THE GUCCI BROGUE It is true that you can tell a lot about a man by his shoes. And these brogues speak volumes. If polished formal shoes denote a man who knows how to take care of business, then owing a pair of these must mean you’re the boss. Lace up and walk on. THE VALENTINO DERBY For a man that likes his shoes to have as much flair as he does, the Valentino Rockstud derby is the foundation upon which to build the rest of his formal look. Slightly more casual than the traditional Oxford, their refined but utilitarian appearance is perfect for the more fashion-forward gentleman. THE GUCCI LOAFER An absolute essential in every man’s formal footwear wardrobe, the iconic Gucci loafer is simple, stylish and utterly versatile. Lose the laces, slip on a pair of these and wait for the shoe kudos to come flooding in. One for the board room. THE JIMMY CHOO SLIPPERS An exquisite velvet upper is a welcome addition to these Jimmy Choo Francis slippers. Something of the luxe material speaks to the dandy inside all of us, evocative of decadent evenings in hotel bars and the pop of a cork from a bottle. Suggestive. Discover Dress Shoes Tweet
