The Wishlist: New Season Gucci

As the new season Gucci starts to arrive, we can all breathe a sigh of relief and thank our lucky stars that chief designer Alessandro Michele is prepared to save us from the boredom of winter. A sartorial breath of fresh, the Florentine fashion house made history this year when it held its Cruise show in the hallowed cloisters of Westminster Abbey. Raising more than a few conservative eyebrows, we thought it was a pretty smart embodiment of Michelle’s uncanny ability to sew historical references and new perspectives into his collections. You can read our report here. From Catherine de’Medici to ‘70s disco and Memento Mori to NYC graffiti, we can’t get enough of the many-faceted Gucci of Michele. Punked, appliqued, beribboned and blossoming, get ready to fall in love with the new season collection. If we could walk it down the aisle, we would.

THE GUCCI SYLVIE HANDBAG

The sun may not yet be shining, but in between the clouds, the Gucci Sylvie handbag is a beacon of stylish hope. A confirmed favourite amongst the fashion set, we can safely predict that this will be a style classic for years to come. Arm-candy investment at its best.

THE SILK CREPE TROUSERS

These beautifully light crepe trousers hail straight from the runway, and caused quite a stir when they came down the aisles of Westminster Abbey. With a playful print reminiscent of summertime meadows and classic Gucci webbing, they’re the perfect transitional piece to take you into Spring.

THE GG MINI MARMONT

For when only a mini will do. What is it that’s so tempting about a small but perfectly formed miniature incarnation of a highly desirable Gucci bag? Oh, that’s right, everything. Especially when it’s rendered in a dusky, baby pink.

THE GUCCI GHOST JACKET

There is something quite stylishly spiritual about the Gucci Ghost print, especially when it’s incorporated into a sweeter-than-sweet jacket like this one. Day-brightening red and a saccharine, pussy-bow drawstring contrast pleasingly with the graffiti skull print. One for the festival season? Zip me up.

THE GG MARMONT MATELASSÉ BAG

We’re head over heels with the GG Marmont matelassé top handle bag. The antique double G logo has stolen our hearts, not to mention that the beautiful, Italian chevron leather that comes complete with an embossed double G on the back. Now that’s dreamy.

THE VICTORIANA BLOUSE

We’re tempted to suggest that Michele does Victoriana better than pretty much every other living designer. A man obsessed with the domestic and religious artefacts of the Victorian era, his interest translates perfectly into this seductively prim blouse. The Sylvie Web pleated trim will go perfectly with your new bag, too.

THE BLOOMS SHOULDER BAG

Rendered in the signature Blooms print GG Supreme canvas, this perfectly formed chain-strap shoulder bag brings to mind spring days on the continent, perhaps promenading along the Cote d’Azure. So much so that it may even have the power to transport you from you over-heated, brightly lit office (no promises, though.)

THE APPLIQUÉD T-SHIRT

We honestly couldn’t think of anything dreamier than throwing on this simple but iconic t-shirt on a lazy weekend morning. Perfect for adding impact to a casual look, or equally for dressing down a statement midi-skirt or skinnies and heels. The blooming appliqué detail is a luxuriously floral introduction to Spring.

THE EMBROIDERED CAMERA BAG

Perhaps you hadn’t noticed, but Gucci is currently having a love affair with romantic, embroidered applique. Team it with the classic GG Supreme canvas and a signature Gucci camera bag silhouette and you might just be able to call it heaven.

THE RUFFLE DRESS

Something about this dress screams luxury-American-air-hostess circa. 1960, in the most luxe way possible. A flattering fit and finished with a classic Gucci web ruffle, it’s the ideal dress for slipping on, certain in the knowledge that you’ll be slipping it back off again after dinner.
