The Wishlist: What To Pack For A Long Weekend

The Wishlist: What To Pack For A Long Weekend

We’re officially in British Summer Time, meaning spring has definitively sprung and the long weekends are fast approaching. The perfect time for a romantic mini-break à deux or a few days away with friends, there are few things as fun and refreshing as a weekend break. Save a week-long holiday, but more on those later in the season. Weekend escapes like these pose but one challenge – packing. More often than not you’re negotiating with hand luggage, so you need to exercise some restraint when choosing what to take. Warmer days often end in cooler evenings during the spring months, so even if you’re heading to the continent, may we start by recommending you take a lightweight jacket. Other than that, these are our long-weekend packing essentials.

Gucci straw boater hat with a black ribbon and gold embroidered bee

Part of the ritual of a holiday is the purchase of a new hat – as significant almost as fishing your luggage out of storage or getting swear-y when you can’t locate the passports. This summer sees natural materials take centre stage, think straw and raffia, like this Gucci boater finished with a bee-embroidered ribbon. Perfect for strolls along the French Riviera in the sunshine.

Pink silk floral printed Love Shack Fancy maxi dress

A springtime holiday is all about easy chic. Channel the season’s bohemian mood in an ultra-light, slightly-nostalgic white cotton dress. Broderie anglaise, lace, guipure, crochet and muslin are standouts of the genre. It’s a versatile piece that can be teamed with combat boots for city sightseeing or a pair of glamorous sandals for a sunset dinner by the beach.

Chloe Rylee medium heeld boots with straps and buckles in black leather

Comfortable enough to walk in (if you’re wandering from café to café with the odd gallery detour) and glamorous enough for night, the cult Chloé Rylee boots are perfect for changeable springtime weather. Wear them on the plane and pair with your floaty white cotton dress on arrival for the biker-prairie contrast that is so hot right now.

Gucci Dionysus GG Supreme shoulder bag

It goes without saying that your choice of bag for a weekend getaway is important. Avoid weighing yourself down and instead take one day bag and a small evening bag for after-dark fun. Gucci’s iconic Dionysus in the house’s neutral GG canvas will go with everything and ensure you go everywhere in style.

Saint Laurent SL214 new wave kate sunglasses

It wouldn’t be a weekend away without a chic pair of shades. The ultimate indicator that spring is here, channel Brigitte Bardot in oversized cat eyes for a trip to the Med, or ‘90s-inspired shades with tinted lenses for a weekend of escapism at a festival. An A-list favourite, Saint Laurent’s SLs are the epitome of under-the-radar glamour.
